Date: 20020828 Who: Bønna (Bjørn Tore), The Dane (Per) & EvilDuck (Tom) Where: Kongeveien (Varhaug - Obrestad) Map: Varhaug is marked with a big red dot. We started our walk at Varhaug, and walked The King's Road north towards Obrestad. It was a very nice day, sunny and bright, yet with a nice cool breeze coming in from the ocean. The natives (mostly cows) weren't restless, so no cause for alarm there. It's weird how you can actually see the curve of the earth when you look out at the sea. As per usual we brought food and had a nice meal on the way. Actually, I think the meal we brought on this trip was the healthiest one of all the meals we had on the road. We even ate that green stuff, uhm "salad" I think it is called. We really bonded with the grass munching natives. To browse through the pictures with comments, follow this link! |

| 145 209 | This is an old iron cross placed on a grave in the cemetary where we started our walk. It has bullet holes in it from the invation during WW2. | ||
| 147 043 | My finger is too thick, it won't fit through the hole in this cross. My finger needs to go on a diet. | ||
| 162 016 | Same cross as above, but without me fingering it. Notice how the bullet just missed the hands on the cross. | ||
| 55 724 | This tiny little chapel can seat 12 people. Must get a bit cramped during funerals I suppose. There was no room for a coffin, so I guess the dearly departed would have to wait outside. | ||
| 59 104 | Here we go again, we're trying to get that perfect postcard picture. I actually think the last picture was better. | ||
| 124 977 | These boat houses were used by the local pilots, they stored their pilot boats there (duh!). Can you imagine going out to help ships get ashore when a storm was raging? And they did not even have engines, they had to row out to sea! | ||
| 82 982 | The natives are out sampling the local cuisine. | ||
| 50 002 | Bønna spotted a sail boat way out at sea and figured he'd take a picture of it. Good thing he bought a zoom lens for his camera, so that next time he might get a better picture. | ||
| 170 069 | A small plaque in memory of the pilots that served here at Varhaug. | ||
| 104 527 | It's kind of weird, if you took a picture at the same spot 5 months later (wintertime), it would most likely look the same. | ||
| 139 071 | These wooden boats are really nice. The guy driving the boat entered the small port at a fairly high pace. Quite scary considering the rocky sea bed. | ||
| 139 368 | The sign says: "No fishing below this point" haha look at where it is placed! | ||
| 100 575 | An old bridge. And our personal version of "Where's Waldo" - Where's The Dane? | ||
| 117 436 | A couple of really old houses or hutts. | ||
| 115 210 | They obviously had some sort of water-powered machinery, you can see the paddle-wheel between the buildings. | ||
| 91 879 | A clearer view of the paddle-wheel, seen from another angle. | ||
| 57 809 | Bønna really likes them sailboats. | ||
| 119 469 | The sign says "ship-breaker yard" - can you see any ships? No? Must have done a good job that ship-breaker guy hehe | ||
| 88 209 | We have this theory that the cows have an underground spy network. Cause they would always spy on us from a distance, and when we got to a new group of cows they would do the same. Someone must have told them we were coming, right? | ||
| 123 509 | The view from where we ate our provisions. It was a nice spot, had a table and a couple of benches so we could eat sitting down. | ||
| 127 970 | We had to walk through this really dense forrest. Luckily some of the natives had chainsawed a tunnel through it. | ||
| 139 308 | The Dane walking through this tunnel in the woods. It was dark and kind of spooky. | ||
| 73 257 | Whenever you come across a pile of rocks in this area, it is usually a very old grave. But not always, so you will have to do a bit of guessing. Could be the foundations of an old house. | ||
| 165 271 | The area has a lot of fences, and you always find these little stairways to get over them. Note the "huge" bridge over the creek hehe | ||
| 78 842 | Can you spot the native spies in this field. The one wearing brown is way harder to spot than the one wearing white. | ||
| 82 640 | Bønna utilized the zoom and got a close up of the spy wearing brown leather. | ||
| 110 261 | One of the native spies coming over to report. I think they have spotted other strangers in the area. | ||
| 50 402 | EvilDuck having a bit of a rest on a comfy rock. This is at the point where we turned and started walking back south. | ||
| 154 605 | Now, if they don't have udders, does that mean they are male or just not mature yet? If it was male I guess it would still have that one big teat, right? | ||
| 96 235 | Ah finally I was handed the camera. Let the butt-shots commence! Muahahaha | ||
| 79 077 | I blame the medication I am on, I have no clue what I wanted to show with this picture. Maybe a postcard moment? | ||
| 88 130 | One for the ladies. Bønna closest to the cam, and The Dane with his backpack farthest off. | ||
| 104 727 | Would you believe me if I told you this is a nice sandy beach with really big grains of sand? hehe | ||
| 118 928 | Spot the boat, win a nice trip to the toilet! hehe | ||
| 95 949 | If this was my cabin by the sea, this would make an excellent postcard! | ||
| 154 785 | The Dane is always one step ahead. Here he's walking one step ahead of Bønna through that forrest tunnel thingie. | ||
| 146 499 | The Dane stopped to wait for Bønna and I. This is the place we ate earlier, the table and benches would be just to the left of this frame. | ||
| 131 603 | Here I wanted to show how some of the trees had a blueish tint, while the others are all green. But as per usual, it doesn't really show in the picture. Nice try though, eh? | ||
| 165 270 | Bønna and The Dane was really getting ahead of me, I had to speed up to not be left behind. | ||
| 67 549 | We never get tired of watching grass, rocks and sea. This picture would make a hard jig-saw puzzle. | ||
| 76 407 | The Dane and Bønna approaching the natives. | ||
| 97 090 | Now if Bønna wasn't so wide, and The Dane so narrow, you'd see The Dane asking one of the young natives for a date. | ||
| 83 404 | She declined and ran off to tell her mom. Look how disappointed The Dane is. | ||
| 96 939 | Woohoo! I'm ahead! hehe finally a shot that isn't a butt-shot. | ||
| 125 998 | Some rusty old thing I found inbetween the rocks. Looks like a piece of machinery. | ||
| 81 741 | The waves are hitting the shore, there's no sound more relaxing than that. Too bad this is just a picture hehe | ||
| 84 200 | The Dane and Bønna having a smoke. Nothing like the smell of tobacco when you're out in the fresh air hehe | ||
| 82 326 | The light was real nice over the sea, but as per usual it doesn't really show in the picture. *sigh* | ||
| 130 854 | Bønna scoring with one of the natives, at least he got a wet kiss on his hand. Woohoo! Go Bønna, go! hehe | ||
| 148 821 | Then she spotted me, and ran off to meet me. Sorry Bønna, I am just a tad cuter. | ||
| 119 217 | More ancient graves. It's strange to think that people have lived here for thousands of years. | ||
| 119 737 | Almost back to where we started. Here you can see the pilot boat houses again. And a couple of natives and some graves. And can you see how the horizon bends? We live on a round planet. | ||
| 108 195 | Pretty much the same as above, only a different angle. Can you spot The Dane and Bønna? | ||
| 155 595 | *zoom* ah there they are, flirting with the natives again. Some people just don't know when to quit hehe | ||
| 130 413 | I must have really liked this spot. | ||
| 114 092 | Bønna and The Dane walking along Kongeveien. | ||
| 111 118 | One of the native spies discretely grazing by the path. Observing our every move. | ||
| 76 019 | Back at the graveyard, this time you can see the chapel from the sea side. | ||
| 113 827 | An old house in the middle of a field. Would probably look better without the modern piece of farming equipment next to it. | ||
| 71 639 | I think I finally managed to take that pefect postcard picture. Just look at the light and the colors in this one. Beautiful, if I may say so myself. :) | ||
| 105 791 | The old gate leading into the graveyard. | ||
| 135 250 | A plaque telling the story of this place. The first known church was built here in 1328. The small white chapel standing here today was built in 1951. The bell in the tower dates back to 1791. | ||
| 127 567 | One of the crosses we took pictures of at the beginning of our walk. This time from the other side. | ||
| 100 638 | A warning sign we found on the way back to The Dane's house. Can you tell what they are warning us about? hehe | ||
